Last November, I posted a submission form on my website as a way for people to offer their personal accounts in the Half Hart book. Since then, many people have contributed beautiful stories and images.
As a Designer in Residence at @otiscollege, I finally started working on a first draft of the book. During the residency, I lead a workshop with a group of students (@vousmechantez @castlepillar @mmmeow44 and @xiaoxsmile). Each student who signed up for my workshop could add their story to the book with an image. On Tuesday (19 July 2017) I took Miao He, Congxiao Liu, Pilar Castillo and Kimmy Bartle on a Half Hart trip in Los Angeles. Each student was instructed to choose a location in LA to visit. Once we reached a student's selected destination, we photographed them with a Half Hart poster in their chosen colors. After the photograph was taken, we’d sit down as a group and listen to their Half Hart story. We talked about the differences between our countries (Belize, Peru, China and Belgium). We talked about how our individual life paths have influenced our ways of thinking and designing. It was a very special day. We laughed and cried. This project is connecting me with so many sweet people.
Not sure if I want a deadline for this book. Maybe this should become a lifetime project?
